Cynthia Bradley-Mancini Dressage

Cynthia Bradley Mancini offers training and instruction for riders in dressage.  Her focus is on developing classical principles in the horse-rider partnership, to enhance the gentle enjoyment of the art of riding for her clients and their horses.  She is currently accepting new clients and is based in Central New York.

The Early Years

Cynthia Bradley-Mancini (or Cindy, as her students call her) started riding at the age of six.  Her mother made it possible for her to take lessons once a week, and by the age of nine, she started riding with Nona Garson, a Grand Prix show jumping rider, then in Tewksbury, NJ.  At age eleven, Cindy and her mother purchased their first horse, Quiet Breeze, a five year old appendix quarter horse.  Breeze and Cindy went through Pony Club together, starting at D-3, and when Cindy was 18, they were awarded Pony Club's highest rating, achieved by only ten percent of Pony Club Riders:  Their A rating. During these early years, Cindy worked as a groom, attended dressage and eventing competitions, and pony club rallies.  She is well aware of the many benefits of serious riding for young girls as they go through adolescence.

Emerging Professional Interest

While working for her A rating, Cindy did a lot of riding for other people, including Marilyn Payne, a Grand Prix dressage rider, FEI S judge and an Olympic level event judge. At this time, Cindy started to entertain the idea of becoming a professional teacher, trainer and judge in her own right. Her next horse, Topaz, a Westphalian thoroughbred cross, took Cindy to dressage through third level and in eventing, through preliminary three-day level. It was from Topaz that Cindy's real nuance in achieving a partnership with a horse emerged.  During her college years at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA, she studied Animal Science, and continued to ride as much as her studies would allow. By graduation, her sites were clearly set on entering the world of professional training and competition.

Early Professional Preparation

During the 1990's, Cindy ran her own facility in Long Valley, New Jersey, where she had twenty two horses in boarding and training, and a large clientele of students under her direction.  Her weekends were busy with showing and managing her barn.  She continued to work under the direction of Marilyn Payne, an experience that has taught her that no matter how far one comes in this sport, one always needs a teacher of one's own. During this time, she also went through the L program through USDF, a training program that prepares judges and teachers for the world of dressage.

Getting Established in Central New York

In 2002, Cindy moved to Central New York, where she took a hiatus from riding and training to have a family.  Today, her two daughters Brianna and Gabrielle are actively following in their mother's footsteps, finding their life passions in sports and even horses. As her children started school, Cindy selectively returned to the world of riding and training.  She achieved her bronze medal with the USDF in 2005 and took on a small number of students and horses for training.  In 2008, she received her USEF “r” eventing license and her USEF “r” eventing technical delegate qualification.  At this time, she became very much in demand as an event and dressage judge.

Today

Thanks to the support of her family and students, today Cindy is the primary instructor to fifteen dedicated riders, ranging in ages from 10 to 75.  Her riders have different goals.  Some want to compete at the upper levels of dressage.  Some enjoy trail riding and improving their relationships with their horses on a daily basis.  For Cindy, the goals and unique talents of each horse and rider team is what drives her teaching.  She continues to start and train young horses and take seasoned horses into the show ring in dressage. True to the insights from her professional development, she is continuing her own training under the direction of Lauren Sammis an International Dressage Competitor and Pan American Team Gold & Silver Medalist. Cindy has her sights set on obtaining her USDF silver medal with her new mount Lawrence. Lawrence is an 12 yr. old Canadian Warmblood by Lynx out of a Ferro mare.
